Jack Reacher (Blu-ray release 2013-5-7) is a movie adaptation of a novel – about the protagonist investigating the cold blooded killing of five random people by someone he knew. Like many other adaptations, the story is good but the movie is not very exciting. To make things worse, it has the weakest action sequences in all Tom Cruise movies that I can remember. I understand there are people who prefer this style of slow-paced action, but I think they are not the majority, as reflected in the disappointing US box office.
I never thought a movie that is not a torture porn can be this disturbing. Movie 43 proves me wrong. Containing 14 different stories or video segments (if I counted correctly), the movie, supposedly an outrage comedy, deals with a range of subjects and most of them are related to sex in some way. I’m sure there are people who find things like coprophilia (sexual attraction to feces) funny, but I’m not one of them. I think some of the stories are creative, but at the same time distasteful. (Note: I watched the UK version; the US version has a different framing story but it does not really matter unless you want to watch Dennis Quaid who is in the US version only.)
