愛．尋．迷 (Enthralled) (Blu-ray release 2014-6-19) is a strange movie written and directed by a famous writer in Hong Kong. It was marketed as an erotic movie, but this is a lie. Its erotic nature consists of merely a few sex scenes with clothes on, and the passion shown is rather limited. Its structure somewhat resembles the Lan Kwai Fong series, although the latter can truly be regarded as erotic while this one cannot.
This movie tells the stories of three men: one falls in love with the beautiful wife of a politician, another falls in love with his student who is a prostitute, and the the last one sleeps with a rich mother, who is played by a 48-year old actress but looks much younger than she is. The major problem with this movie is that it really wants to talk about politics, but since this is usually a boring subject it tries to sugercoat it with subpar love and sex scenes. The endings are much less conventional than other romance stories though, because it reflects the director’s criticism of the state of Hong Kong society. Unless the audience is seriously interested in Hong Kong politics or the actresses, this movie is not worthwhile to watch.
