The novel Kiki’s Delivery Service was adapted for the screen by Miyazaki as a really charming animation in 1989, about a 13-year old witch girl in training.  This 2014 live action adaptation (Blu-ray release 2014-9-19) manages to be very different.  Although the basic premise is still the same, the personalities of all the characters are changed, and the storyline is very much different.

The CG animals look fake, but this is the least of problems.  Although I wouldn’t call this movie charmless, turning most of the townspeople, including both adults and children, into jerks who bully the poor little witch girl makes this movie unlikeable.  The climax is also far too much weaker, and includes something that sounds like nonsense to me.  This turns out to be a bigger disappointment than I expected.
