The Extended Edition of Ghostbusters (Blu-ray release 2016-10-11) adds 15 minutes to the theatrical edition, which unfortunately made some cuts that damaged the continuity of the story. The Extended Edition now tells a proper story, but does not make it a good movie. The critical failure here is the screenplay – it’s just not funny – and it limits what might be achieved by the lead actresses, who are outshined by Chris Hemsworth. Compared to the original classic, I think the new climax is an acceptable alternative to the original one, although I don’t particularly like it or hate it. I do prefer the marshmallow man to the new replacement of the final villain though.
